The 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards hit the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Thursday in style and allyship. Guest of honor Oprah Winfrey brought the crowd of hundreds to its feet with a rousing speech when she accepted the 2024 Vanguard Award.

“Thirty-five years ago, my brother, Jeffrey Lee, passed away when he was just 29 years old from AIDS. Growing up at the time we did, in the community we did, we didn’t have the language to understand or speak about sexuality and gender in the way we do now,” Winfrey said. “And at the time, I didn’t know how deeply my brother internalized the shame that he felt about being gay. I wish he could have lived to witness these liberated times and to be here with me tonight.

“What I know for sure is that when we can see one another, when we are open to supporting the truth of a fellow human, it makes for a full, rich, vibrant life for us all,” she continued. “And that’s what I wish my brother Jeffrey could have experienced: a world that could see him for who he was and appreciate him for what he brought to this world. I am proud to receive this honor. Thank you GLAAD.”

TheWrap caught the entertainment icon backstage moments after her win for exclusive standalone portraits along with GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, who also gave one of the highlight speeches of the night.

Elsewhere, pop star and actress Reneé Rapp (a winner for Outstanding Music Artist), history-making “Pose” Emmy nominee Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Matt Bomer, Sherry Cola, JoJo Siwa, Allison Williams and many more stars swung by TheWrap’s exclusive portrait studio for quick photo sessions with creative director Jeff Vespa, posing for stunning shots among the stars.

Honoring 16 of the biggest names in LGBTQ+ entertainment — and featuring show-stopping musical performances by Oscar nominee Kate Hudson and Grammy-nominated R&B singer Chloe — the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards also presented Niecy Nash-Betts with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, with an assist from Sharon Stone. The event was hosted by the newly out-and-proud Wayne Brady with charming aplomb and was followed by an afterparty featuring speciality cocktails from sponsors Hornitos tequila and Ketel One vodka.

The awards will stream on Hulu beginning March 29. Remaining winners for the 33 total categories will be announced at the organization’s New York ceremony on May 11.

“Ted Lasso,” “Yellowjackets,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and Renee Rapp were just a few of the winners from the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards, held Thursday night at the Beverly Hilton.

It’s the first of two dual ceremonies — the second happens May 11 in New York City — but we’ll go out on a limb and say it’s the best one because it’s first, and in Los Angeles (just kidding). And prior to the awards actually being handed out, the stars were out in force with some absolutely iconic looks for the Red Carpet.

Among them were Sydney Sweeney, Wayne Brady, Chlöe, Jason Sudeikis, Niecy Nash, and that’s barely a sample. Read on and see some of the best outfits and fiercest attitudes from the GLAAD Media Awards 2024.

It’s time to hit the campaign trail — no, not that one. We’re talking about a fictional campaign this time, one that’s taking place in “The Girls on the Bus.”

Now streaming on Max, the series is inspired by Amy Chozick’s book “Chasing Hillary,” which details her own time as a journalist on a political campaign trail. But the show itself follow fours fictional journalists, each working in a different form of journalism and with different ideas about it (and politics in general).

The role marks Melissa Benoist’s live-action TV show since “Supergirl” ended on The CW in 2021. Find out who she plays, and who she’s acting beside, in our complete “Girls on the Bus” cast and character guide below.

SXSW Film & TV Festival is increasingly becoming the season’s must-stop gathering for creators of all calibers, and the 2024 fest, held in Austin, Texas March 8–March 16, proved to be no exception.

The 31st annual celebration of the arts — held proudly in a city that likes to keep things weird — featured headliner presentations of feature films like Pamela Adlon’s directorial debut “Babes,” Alex Garland’s “Civil War” starring Kirsten Dunst, “The Fall Guy” with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway’s May-December rom-com “The Idea of You,” horror flick “Immaculate” from producer-star Sydney Sweeney, Dev Patel’s “Monkey Man,” Doug Liman’s “Road House” remake with Jake Gyllenhaal and “Saturday Night Live” vet Kyle Mooney’s nostalgic comedy “Y2K.”

And that list is just the tip of the iceberg.

In an exclusive Shutterstock portrait studio for TheWrap, photographers Andrew H. Walker and Chelsea Lauren captured the film and TV fest’s biggest stars, from Nicolas Cage (“Arcadian”) to Daisy Ridley (“Magpie”) to Marisa Tomei (“High Tide”) and more.

As celebrities pulled up to the Oscars 2024 red carpet, many wore red pins to signify a call for an Israel-Gaza cease-fire.

Billie Eilish, Mark Ruffalo, Ava DuVernay and Finneas O’Connell were among the stars making a statement at this year’s Academy Awards. This comes after more than 400 members of the Hollywood entertainment industry signed a letter to President Joe Biden via the organization Arists4ceasefire in an effort to end the violence taking place on the Gaza strip.

“We ask that, as President of the United States, you and the US Congress call for an immediate de-escalation and cease-fire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost,” the letter read. “More than 30,000 people have been killed over the last five months, and over 69,000 injured* – numbers that any person of conscience knows are catastrophic. We believe all life is sacred, no matter faith or ethnicity and we condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians.”

The letter continued: “We urge your administration, Congress, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay – an end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages. Half of Gaza’s two million residents are children, and more than two thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them.”

The organization came together on Oct. 20 in response to Hamas’ attack Israel on Oct. 7.

The letter concluded: “We urge your administration, Congress, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay — an end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages. Half of Gaza’s two million residents are children, and more than two thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them. Since Oct 7th, more than 45,000* bombs and missiles have been dropped on Gaza — resulting in one child being killed every 10 minutes.”

Famed comic actor Eugene Levy (“Schitt’s Creek,” “Best in Show”) was given his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, where he was joined by friends and family — as well as being reunited with his “American Pie” costar Jason Biggs.

With more than 40 years in the game as an actor and writer, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Levy with his own star on Hollywood Boulevard.

“If you know me at all, you know just how uncomfortable a day this is for me, knowing you have all uprooted your schedules to be here,” Levy said, thanking family and actor friends like his “Schitt’s Creek” wife Catherine O’Hara.

He went on to highlight the attendance of his grandson, who he said could be looking at fire trucks instead of attending the ceremony. And while his real-life son Dan Levy couldn’t be there due to filming a movie in Bulgaria, the elder Levy shouted out his “second son” Jason Biggs.

“My second son Jim is here from ‘American Pie,’ and I love the fact you’re here Jason,” Levy said to Biggs, who played his son Jim Levenstein in the 1999 comedy.

Levy opened his speech by talking about his start in the entertainment business and how remarkable of an attempt it was for someone from his background.

“Getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is about as far from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, as you can get,” Levy said. “Nobody went into the entertainment business. It just didn’t happen in Hamilton in the 1960s. But, unfortunately, that’s when I got hooked on this business — 1961, when I performed for the first time on stage at Central High. It was a production of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’… I played the tailor.”

“I only had one scene, but I remember getting a few laughs in that scene that I’m sure Shakespeare had not intended,” Levy quipped, “but even then, the sound of audience laughter had a big appeal for me. That’s how I spent the next 50-plus years working comedy, playing comedy characters. How rewarding was that? A life spent making people laugh.”

Afterward, he thanked his wife Deborah Levy for always being his support system.

“You can’t have your name put on a star on Hollywood Boulevard without someone having your back,” Levy said. “Deb’s had mine for 47 years. So there would be no star today without you.”

You can watch the full ceremony here:

Levy was awarded his star, which is in the Television category for his contributions over the years to TV, on Friday morning. It mark the 2,773rd star to join the historic Walk of Fame.
